I think you are far too pessimistic on the Dex III.
A lot of the GM factory fill was sourced from Petro Canada, and was better than Dex VI in many respects.

2006 and up come with Dex VI from the factory. III is slightly thicker but has no where near the resistance to friction and heat. Since my last post I’ve checked the fluid on level ground after leaving the trans to cool for ~30 mins and found the fluid level to be low by atleast a half quart. Topped it off with Dex VI and now the abrupt jerky shifts are gone.
