Here is the “ approach plate” which pilots use to plan, brief, and fly the approach.
Notice the Hold pattern at Makli.
Pilots are to confirm , and verify what’s in the FMS ( ILS 25L ) versus the approach plate. The FMS would have had a hold in it and the pilots should have cleared it out for accurate FMS managed ( means FMS will do all the calculations for the pilots ) descent, or been aware the descent profile would be off if doing a straight in ILS.
The Captain , because of the high landing speed, thought it was wise to use full reverse thrust while floating ( high speed plus less drag ….they forgot to put the landing gear down ) but the aircraft , for safety reasons, would not allow reverse thrust to be engaged ( need to have the landing gear down , and oleo compression ).
