My wife drives her '04 4 cyl./2.0L (no turbo) car less than 2,000 miles per year. Can she go one year on Valvoline Synpower (5W30)?

Sounds like it might get "very short tripped"?

If so and if it were my car I'd do a twice a year OC with a cheap dino to help diminish condensation issues.

Best "money value" (Walmart 5 qt jug) moisture fightin' oil happens to be a synthetic ... Pennzoil Platinum. That's what I would use. I would also be sure to get that engine up-to normal operating temps -- at least once a month.

Thanks for the opinions.

Indeed the car gets short tripped but I also insist she take it out on the freeway for 20 miles or more every four to six weeks.

As I have 4 qts of the SynPower, I'll use that and go for the year OCI.

According to the owners' manuals, both of my Accords (weak pun) require oil changes every 7500, or at least once a year. I change every 5000, with syn (the '99 is now on its first run of GC, the '97 is on PP). If I only out 2K a year on either car, I would go to one change a year.
Those advising you to run the car to full operating temperature once in a while are right. You cannot otherwise evaporate accumulated moisture (a combustion product, and a result of condensation) from the oil.

Not trying to be a smart aleck, but it sounds like your wife might be better served to rent a car rather than own one for less than 2k a year.

Good point and normally I would agree...
...but the car was a gift from her father.
