My brother-in -law has an old (50s) Ford tractor, which burns a quart of oil an hour.(20w-50).I have some Shell 10w -30 oil.would it be ok to use this oil instead of 20w-50?(He plans to get it overhauled this winter.)

Yes, the 10w-30 will be just fine. Keep an eye on the oil pressure-if you're working it hard and it starts to flutter then it's getting low.

I own 4 Ford N's from '39 to '51.
