Does anyone have a pdf or a link to oil testing comparisons by brand and weight? Something preferably not done by amsoil maybe? Any help would be great.

Any application. There has to be some independant testing out there somewhere. I heard of a test that puts gradual pressure on a bearing, and some oils could take more pressure before siezing up than others.

That is similar to the device called a "one armed bandit" and isn't relevant to engine oil. It is a gear oil test.

Yup, plenty of them

The "Sequence" tests by the API are quite relevant, such as sequence IVA, IIIG....etc.

Seq IIIG here:

http://www.intertek.com/automotive/lubricant/sequence-iiig/

And then there are all the manufacturer-specific tests, like those done by Porsche, Mercedes Benz, BMW....etc.

Thanx, i checked out that intertek site but it is very vague. it just tells how they test and test parameters and such. im looking for specific brand testing, like a testing of say 15 diff brands and how they compare

Way too generic of a request. Too many different oils, too many different motors.

You will need to narrow it down somehow.

Nothing like that exists.

Amsoil ponies the dollars and pays for independent tests from time to time. Do you really think they just make the results up?

There isn't really much out there as far as motor oil tests outside of the Amsoil ones. Kind of disappointing.

There is this sportrider motorcycle oil test where they included a couple of auto oils.

The API tests all of the oils that they put their Starburst and Donut symbols on. If you check a bottle of oil for these symbols before you buy it, you are assured of getting an oil that has passed a standard battery of tests that will protect your engine. Unfortunately, the API doesn't publish specific test results so that you can see which oils far exceed requirements versus ones that just squeak by.

If you really want to know what goes into getting API certifications on an oil, follow the link below.
