Oil Recommendation

M1 0w40 FS or Castrol Edge 0w40 are 2 good options when on sale. Over 1000ppm zddp.
What's the engine condition, oil pressure, oil usage etc? What kind of usage and temperature? How many miles will you put on it?

I would only run synthetic if the gaskets were modernized (replaced) with the newer materials. My vote AMSOIL Z-rod.

If the gaskets are original, I would run a conventional from a name brand of your choice with additives that are designed for solid lifter/cam setup. My vote would be Driven. (they have a conventional designed for this situation)

I know, both of my ideas are expensive. Other options available cheaper and more easily will probably be mentioned soon.

If it is stock I would run a synthetic 10w30.
It it has higher rate valve springs, I would look into a specialty oil with elevated ZDDP level.

2barrel, where are you located? 5W-50 provides a lot of protection, but even though it is 5W I would not run it in very cold climates.

Your location city, state, (and what low and high ambient temperatures the vehicle sees) will help those knowledgeable about oil on this site tell you what oils are good for your application. BTW, there are many good oils, not just one.

Assuming it hasn't been upgraded, the 327/300 hp camshaft is a mild grind used in millions of other small block Chevys. I'm sure any name brand conventional 10w30 would be up to the task, but if it were mine I'd probably look for an HDEO (diesel rated) 10w30.

Any modern 10W-30 will work fine in that engine. The "929" Cam is very mild. Only 0.390/0.410 Lift with very light springs. If it was mine I would likely use Valvoline MaxLife 10W-30 Blend. That assumes you have good oil pressure with a 30 grade. However any API SN/SN+/SP Oil will be more than sufficient.

Modern oils didn't just reduce ZDDP. They replaced it with other substances and are light years ahead of the oil used originally in that car when it comes to reducing wear on sliding surfaces.

If the engine is reasonably healthy, I recommend a conventional 10w30 or 10w40 such as Valvoline daily protection, Pennzoil yellow bottle, Chevron Supreme, etc. Chevron supreme is a very good oil for a great price, hard to beat the value.

If you're where it's warm a 15W40 HDEO would probably be a good choice. If you wanna splurge on full synthetic I guess go for rotella T6 15w40.

That is the first time I have heard of such an oil weight. Amazing that modern tech allows such an oil with that wide of a range of viscosity ratings.
It’s a pretty dubious spec and no major manufacturer has a real rated 0w60.

Same goes for Redline Heavy Shockproof 75W250 which is NOT a 75W when cold. Great for slowing diff leaks to halt though

The don't appear to actually call it a 75w-250 though, they just claim:
Redline said:
  • Film thickness greater than an SAE 75W250, yet low fluid friction like 75W90
While the product is simply called "Heavy Shockproof" with no actual API viscosity label.

They do however appear to offer an 80w-250:

What type of oil do you recommend for a 1963 Corvette 327cubic inch 300 hp engine?
If this is a split coupe I'm envious. The '63 split coupe is my favorite Vette of all time. As for oil any modern oil manufactured in the past 25 years would probably do great in it. If the car has been restored and engine rebuilt I'd probably splurge and get something like Mobil 1 or PUP. The reason I say splurge is because in nearly 45 years of driving I've never used anything other than conventional oil I'm using 10w40 Citgo Supergard that was probably bought in the early 2000's with no problems in my '16 Versa. I ran an '88 Ford Escort to 518K miles on various brands of 10w40 from that era.
