My son's go kart has a 10hp Robin-Subaru air cooled engine on it. The Owner's manual calls for either 30wt or 10w30 motor oil. I dont know how long it has been since the previous owner changed the oil, nor what type he used. It does, however, run very well and it does not smoke at all. A neighbor gave me a case of Royal Purple 10w30 and said he uses it in his car and truck. Should I go with the RP or is there something better?

Thanks!

I would stick with a 30w for summer use, them G/C's are working hard and running HOT, i use Amsoil's ACD in all my summer lawn equipment/small engines, good oil no VII's to shear..

keep the RP for your car. lol

Oh and welcome.

Thanks!

But alas, I use M1 10w30 in my 98 cherokee with 180,000 miles - since its first oil change. I just cant bring myself to pour that purple stuff in it now!

i hear ya,but RP ain't a bad oil expecally when
it's free...

My dad ran M1 Synthetic 10w30 in lawnmower engines years before any mower manufacturer ever allowed any multi viscosity oil to be used. He got great results.

Just a year after he quit cutting grass, Briggs and Stratton said that synthetic multi-viscosity oils were fine.

Honestly, take the free Royal Purple synthetic and use it. While many people get better results with M1 synthetic than Royal Purple, it doesn't mean Royal Purple is bad. Just switch brands when the Royal Purple runs out.
