. I always check my fluid levels, at least once a month. I was changing my oil spring and fall. I thought it was a big waste, because at that OCI, I had about 3,500 miles. So this was the first time, I went to yearly OCI. I'd rather do it at 7,000 , so it ends up yearly in the fall. I'm upstate and don't have a garage,. Changing oil below zero, is not fun
. I did find it weird that Toyota changed OCI from 5,000 to 10,000.
The manual recommended 5,000 for the four cylinders and 10,000 for the six cylinders. I'm not sure why they should be different OCI's. The dealer said they have a TSB, stating four cylinders are 10,000 OCI's
I have been following this site, since around 2005. I do understand that oil can go much longer, than the manufacturer recommends.
Odd, the manual for my '09 is 5K OCI's for both the 4 and 6 cylinders. I know the newer 3.5 is 10K OCI's, but never knew they upped the 4.0. The only changes to the 4.0 in '12 was added emissions equipment. 0w20 will serve you well in your climate and 7K intervals sounds about right. That's what I plan on with mine with the 4.0.
I just checked the manual and your right it says 5000 mile OCI for both 4.0L and 2.7L. I think it was some where in the Toyota care paperwork, that said 4.0 gets 10,000 OCI and 2.7 gets 5,000. I remember, because I had to show them that paperwork at 10,000 miles. They didn't want to do it, because they said it changed to 10,000 OCI, like the six cylinders. They said to come back at 15,000 on the odometer, since I had it changed at 5,000. I showed them, the Toyota care paper work still said 5,000 mile OCI, so they changed it for me. Than at 15,000 they, gave me the same trouble. This time I didn't have the paper work with me and didn't want to fight. I just went home and changed my own oil. You'll have to look it up, but I'm pretty sure the 4.0 is 10,000 OCI. There 2.7 definitely is. If I still had the Toyota care paper work, I would post it.
