Hi all, I recently found out that my 97 isuzu trooper (94,000 miles) has been leaking/burning about 1 quart every 1,000 miles and i am thinking about starting to use a 10w30 high mileage oil. I went to the local walmart and saw that they have mobil super hm and supertech hm for under 15 a jug as well as penzoil and castrol hm for around 18. What brand oil would you recommend and why? I will be changing the oil every 3000 miles.

is mobil super 5000 a high mileage oil and will it help slow/stop the leaks? Ive been using regular convential oil and have been having to add 1 quart every 1000 miles so im trying to find an oil where i do not have to do this.

The owners manual on that 3.2 v6 will allow anything from 5w30 to 20w50, but with today's oils i would probably stick with a 5w30 high mileage since its consuming oil. Mobil Super HM is a top choice.

okay so i think im going to go with a 5qt jug of mobil super HM but i was wondering could i also get a quart of supertech hm (dollar cheaper than the MSHM) and add it in later if it continues to leak?

Yeah you can top it off with the Supertech, but you might as well buy 2 jugs of the Mobil Super HM to use for top offs and your extra quart. Your engine should hold 5.7 quarts for a full oil change with filter.

High mileage oils that help slow leaks have been reported to take time to work, so don't get impatient and switch products too fast.

The bottle with the blue cap is the high mileage recipe.
