Lemme know when you need to replace the radiator in this truck and I'll give you the secrets....You start by removing the headlights!

If it's hot in your area Mobile 1 EP 15W50 or the 5W40 truck/suv oil will give you the protection you need under those severe driving conditions.

I had tried 5w30 w/ Mobil 1 fltr but not sure about this combo.GM says 5w30 first choice ,what about heavy hauling and long parking intervals.I was running 5w30 dino and AC fltr.Engine seems a bit louder on start up now. Thanks

As an aside, how do you like the performance of the 8.1? Is it "spirited" in everyday driving.

It appears the 8.1 is the only big block gas V8 truck engines left.

Ford and Dodge have V10s. My 8.1(496 cid)does not have a remote fltr.Very quick for a 6000lb+ vehicle(410 rr end).Pulls like a freight train, seven passengers plus 24 foot boat and gear.10 MPG.

No go on the remote, just the factory filter.
Mine runs real strong but I have a few mods to it.

GM also makes the 6.0L V8. This is also a BB Chevy.

I always was a fan of 3/4 and 1T trucks regardless of make

I agree with some others about T&SUV 5w40. If it sits for days at a time causing most of the oil drops going back into the sump, then start it up, it will need fast start up protection. Then when your towing, you got the 40wt to protect you. Seems to me, the more I think about it, 5w40 oils seem like good oils for vehicles that sit for awhile, then start up. Isn't 5w40, just genius

Sorry, but wrong.

The GM Corp 6.0 V-8 is the larger LS1 based SB Vortec.

Shares block with the 4.8 and 5.3 blocks.

My Dad's '03 GMC 2500 4x4 has the 6.0 Vortec.

Great engine, but its a small block.

I have 14000 miles, have had 1 ring and pinion failure and limited slip clutch plate shudder problem.GM uses syn diff oil and an additive.
