I know these people are not making it up either after all i've had my own experiences with this stuff, figured since it was free i'd try some in the neon, got home and noticed the car knocking, this was a knock from a rod/ bearing, not a little tick from a lifter or anything like that, left it in for 1 more day and the next morning the knock was getting worse, quick switched the [censored] out for some of the VR1 racing oil and never had any knocking ticking or any noises after. Like I said I see cars all day that people run shaeffers in, if they don't leak because of it or have magically disappearing oil then they have lot's of valvetrain noise and usually switch to Mobil 1 or back to good old conventional.
I'm on my last OCI of Schaeffer's 5w30 SL blend in my 1996 Ford Contour w/2.0L Zetec 4. I've run up to 8,500 mile OCI's, current one, and never have to add oil, motor's quiet, valve train is like new "clean" looking through the oil fill. I've been happy with the oil but now a days oils that can be bought at a store that will protect my engine for the rest of it's life, it's going on 17 years old.

I don't doubt you one bit, we have other people who use it and don't report any problems either but not many i'd say, or most are like my gf and don't recognize a rattle or knock and just turn the key and go, it's probably not the worst oil out there and i'm sure all motors react different to oil also then others, i've had my issues and have seen many with it though also, did you run it in your car since new? have you ever used additives? Also how much were you paying for it just to be curious.
I've been using Schaeffer's since 2004, before that I used various synthetics, ie Mobil 1, Exxon syn and Quaker State syn, the "old stuff". With the shipping at the time when I bought the 5w30 Schaeffer's blend it was less expensive than buying Mobil 1 at Walmart. Say what you want but I've been pleased with Schaeffer's. And yes I do use LCD additives in all the gas and oil fills. I use LCD even with my Motorcraft oil in my 2002 F-150. With 1 year 5,000 mile OCI's the valve train when looking through the oil fill hole is like new. Schaeffer's has been great to me but it's not worth ordering it any more, appropriate grade Amsoil can be had for less if I want to order oil.

Yeah like I said I don't doubt that many people do just fine with it and have no problems what so ever, but there will always be some people who say otherwise about every kind of oil, you make a good point though that for the price at the time it couldn't be beat. We don't pay much for it either right now.
