Walking my dog this am I found the neighbor's dog, Lucky, laying on the ground dead. Bummer. Hated to do it, but couldn't walk away, so I knocked on the door to inform her. Well, the dog was 9 years old and probably about 60 pounds, so 9 years is in the ballpark for lifespan, but probably on the shorter end.

Thinking back, this dog probably was afflicted with some malady, as when Cookie and I would pass by (Cookie is only 1 year old), they would sniff through the fence and Lucky would make a weird whimper/moan sound. Only once in the couple dozen times we visited along the fence, did Lucky get spunky and do play bows and run up and down the fence with Cookie.

To leave this post on a bright note, here is my dog, Cookie, about 10 months old, eating snow. Cookie is about 19 inches high between the front shoulders and weighs 45 pounds. Shepherd mix of some sort.

TP- Sorry to hear your day started on a sad note; what kind of dog was the neighbors? Is Lucky let out in the morning or was out all night? Well I suppose death is a unavoidable part of life (as long as there was no antifreeze drinking involved).

Breezeway door is left open so she could go out as she pleased. Not antifreeze as she was confined to the yard. She probably knew what was happening and went to her favorite spot to wait for the end.

I'd say Lucky was a shepherd mix, about 60+ pounds, black. Totally different from Cookie. Cookie has got to have a smaller dog and a short haired dog in her mix as she is smaller than a pure shepherd, also her muzzle is short. We think there could be some shar pei as she also has very loose skin around here neck and chest area, her back legs are typically (as shown above) peg straight like a shar pei, tail high and curling forward, purple spots on tongue.

She is very smart. Gotta be careful or she'll turn it around and be training us. Dogs are very good at training people.

First trip to the shelter and we saw this girl. We kind of wanted a German shepherd puppy and there she was. Other than her eating a poisonous mushroom in Nov (20 hours in ICU and $1600) she has been pretty good. She has been getting a lot of training by my kids and assistance from my dog-trainer neighbor who has a pet business www.sitstayplaywithbev.com and also is a training director for Wolverine Dog Training Club http://www.wolverinedtc.com/index.php where we have Cookie taking classes.

Not nice to find someone's pet dead in the morning. One morning I came out to find the neighbour's dog hanging over the fence, strangled by his lead.I had heard some ticking early that morning, thinking it was the daughter being picked up as she did an early shift, but now I think it was the dog scabbling at the fence. He must have tried to chase a cat and jumped the fence.I don't know which cat it was - they all have that quietly satisfied smirk on their face...
