Like others have said, seeing this has made me aware of many aspects of oil filters that I had no idea about.
I have a lot to learn and this is a good site because of people who are willing to help each other out.

Always look forward to seeing your filters cut open, and when I see your posts that's where I go right away. It's messy and time consuming to cut open used filters especially and it's appreciated. Writing on forums is sort of a strange thing, easy to get misunderstood, and on here there is no easy way to erase what is already posted. There isn't much time either to erase. I know a couple times I read my own stuff and said sheesh wth.

Well, dang it. (In my head those are much stouter words.)
I've never replied to car51,(directly, and/or not in an offensive way AFAIK) but have read nearly every post and looked at filter porn more than the real thing.
Inspired so much in fact, that I counted change, ate 1 less burger a week and saved for a filter cutter, arriving today from Speedway.
If you never cut another filter, I'll miss them, and your posts, and the courtesy contained within.
Funny how some posts are shut down immediately, but enough posts happen to encourage someone to stop what they enjoy, what helps the community, and adds to the site.
Stick around car51, you guru of filter nekkidness...

I, too, appreciate the autopsies by car51 and others, especially those of filters with issues. I've dissected several myself, and admit that process was always slow, tedious, and messy by my crude methods. I did it anyway, because I was curious. Now that I've graduated to cartridge filters, autopsies will be easier, and just as interesting.
Glad to hear you will keep doing the cutting and posting. Its the cutting and posting that informed us of the Purolator problems and continued tearing failures, the cut ADBV on the new Boss filters and other internal issues.
If it wasn't for the cutters Fram Ultra would never have really come to light as one of the best filter buys on the market today. Sometimes people forget the value of something like this until they don't have it to reference anymore.

I always appreciated your time and effort. I rarely ever read any posts after your pics because I didn't care to read someone's critique about a misplaced pleat. For every one knucklehead with something to say there were at least another hundred or thousand of us that silently enjoyed all of the filter pics. It really is a fruitless effort, but just wanted to say thank you for all of your previous content. It didn't go unnoticed.
It really is a shame that your level of frustration has reached a point that you have thoughts of leaving the forum. Over the past 15 years of daily reading on here, so many times it has happened that some extremely useful people have left the forum because of the same kind of frustrations you apparently have endured. The real shame of it all is that some of these people have had advanced engineering, chemical, and other high degrees of professionalism and were "run off" in petty nitpicking attacks. Some of these folks were even chemical and automotive engineers in various fields with the big three auto companies, and instead of receiving a modicum of respect, they too had to endure similar treatment...and left the forums in disgust! It must be a terrible frustration for such individuals to have to suffer the fools on here!
At any rate, you have made significant contributions to BITOG by slicing and dicing oil filters, but I think you have seen how much appreciated your work is and has been widely accepted by those who desire to learn and grow on here! There are always those who live and learn, and some who just live!! Just sort the learners from the live-ers and let the rest go.
