I've never officially learned this, but I always thought it was common sense? If I'm only moving my eyeballs for a peek, I won't see my car but if I move my head, I'll only see my doorhandle as a position reference. When I was a porter, most people had it set properly. The worst ones were having half the side mirrors showing their own cars.

i'm using the blind spot convex mirrors anyway so the problem solved

and yes you need it mostly on the drivers side, because the right side of the car has that zoom out effect

I've always done this, basic common sense. But my wife & daughter won't do it. I showed them, they see the difference, and choose not to do it. They prefer having a blind spot. That makes no sense to me. But I think many other drivers are like them, which is scary.

I learned this over 20 years ago but it's worth repeating because so many drivers who complain about blind spots are unaware of how to adjust their mirrors so the blind spot is either significantly reduced or disappears all together..

I'm now 66 years old. That was one of the first things I learned. Back when I started road racing in my. Teens Was how to set my mirrors? And I always use that in my highway cars. It was surprising to me that how many people didn't know how to. Really use their mirrors. Still, to this day, there are many, many people that don't know how to properly set their mirrors in your passenger cars. It just amazes me that it's that way. I've showed all my family members how to do it. I've told them which would you rather see the site of your car? Or the other cars beside you. But it's surprising how old habits just stick with them. And one of the sad parts. Of drivers training and drivers. Test to get your license. Is the people that do that stuff. Do not instruct people. On how to set their mirrors properly. Because obviously they don't know how to do it. And that's really sad.

Back in the 70s my Dad always tells me "Never trust the side mirrors. Always turn your head and look on the side you are turning especially when riding a motorcycle". To this date I never had an accident, whether driving a car or riding on a motorcycle. It worked for me but others might tend to disagree...to each his own.

Has your mirror been replaced? My 2013 Accord had a factory wide angle mirror on the driver side. Eliminated the need for some weird goofy aftermarket blind spot mirrors. It was standard equipment on EX and higher trim levels, and your mirror housing is from an EX or higher trim.

To my knowledge that’s only reserved for V6 and Touring models

My CRV from the signature below has that option on but it’s poorly executed in my opinion yet I’m using the blind spot mirror there too

Actually I may have misspoke, I believe it was standard on all Accords. I do remember some people on the accord forums swapping it out with an aftermarket glass without the wide angle.

The honda/Kiandai blindspot camera systems really came in clutch for this. Tesla with all of its cameras allows this as well. For those not driving a rolling 360 camera, this is still good.

i'm an old school so i'm OK with it 😀

IIRC, the BMW Driving School vid was posted on here a few years back that showed how to properly set the mirrors.

On the highway, with the side mirrors set to eliminate the blind spots, I can watch a car overtaking me such that just as it's disappearing in the rear
view mirror it's appearing in the side mirror.

At the very worst, it's only absent for a fraction of a second.
