In what way are Iridium spark plugs better than Platinum or even copper? I have heard this said before from others but without explination. Is it longevity or performance?...Or both?
Over here Honda/Acura says to change plugs at 105k miles (which I intend to take more than full advantage of). Why would one change them at almost half that (95000 km = 59000 miles)? Hardly seems an argument for longevity. And how was the better performance judged?
Look at the NGK website. There are pictures of flame in a cylinder with normal plug and Iridium IX. My first set replaced NGK coppers that were not old. The difference is immediately noticeable in smoothness at idle and more so when accelerating. burning more of the fuel charge makes a big difference. I did change these way to early, they still look great (I kept 'em)
I'm wondering why the Japanese shortened the brand name from "Nippondenso" to just "Denso." I noticed that when I Google Nippondenso, the Denso company in the first search result though.
Which is cheaper?, I will bet both are comparable in Quality, flip a coin or run the NGK's. I just took Denso iridiums out of my 02 that were in the engine(1ZZ-FE 1.8 Toyota) for 75000 miles. They were still serviceable. But I had Bosch on hand so in they went. I have used NGK and Bosch in the past with great results, and I wouldn't hesitate to run Denso either.
