0w16 and 0w40 ST has come to hillbilly mart. The 0w16 is the exact same as the other FS quart bottles at 4.98. The 0w40 is 6.98/qt. The 5qt bottles are the same story, 18.64 for 0w16 (same as others) and the 0w40 is 26.98. No purolators in sight though.

If you don't have a car for the 0W40, it's a good choice for a backup generator where people live in a true 4-season climate like the midwest, Northeast.. .

0w40, more expensive than the name brands…c’mon.
I’d have no problem using supertech but with name brands running sales and rebates it’s not cost effective to buy supertech. If the regular stuff was $16.64 a jug I’d probably buy it every time and never bother with rebates.

exactly! I just got 6 5qt jugs of Castrol Euro 0w40 for 23.97/ea!

Nice to see them with a "European Formula".
I just wish they’d release a 10w40 Full Syn instead of just the Syn blend. That’s what I want in my car for the summer, I’ve heard the ST 10w40 will just shear down to a 30 weight in very little time

I think all oils that have a wide span, generally shear quickly. Example, I am not a fan of Rotella T6 5w40. From "5" to "40" is a wide span. This Super Tech 0w40 is also a wide span and I think it suspect. For Rotella, I prefer the 15w40 and the 10w30.... as they tend to hold their specs much longer, as a much more narrow span. Fewer modifiers.

There's a reason KTM motorcycles only recommends 500 miles or so for their bikes that require 10w60. Shear City Baby.....

I agree with you, be nice to see a 10W40 Euro. Heck, most of America could do just fine with a 10w20, 15w30 or 20w40. But I digress and get off topic.... I would LOVE a 15w30 Euro that was super stout like the old Castrol green.

So, uhhh, just use the 0w40 full synthetic in the summer? 10wXX will not give you a competitive advantage anywhere except fewer VIIs, but the FS will most likely have better components than the blend.

Someone posted the SDS for ST 0w-40 with it showing 60% PAO. Maybe it's a good value. I wonder how it'd do in shear tests.

SDSs aren’t “recipes”. This has been discussed just about as often as UOAs not being valid to compare wear metals between oil brands… you should know better. 😖
