As the title says, I need new brake pads. The low pad squeak is on audible all the time now. I've gone almost 2 years on my Wagner ThermoQuiets on the front and almost 4 years on the PFC Carbon Metallic Pads on the rear disks. There is no bite when I slam on the brakes now. I might go with the PFCs all around this time around. Any suggestions? This Jeep is now pretty much a city driver.

The only thing I look for when buying pads is that they aren't the style with rivets showing. I like the ones that look as if they are all one piece, with no holes showing on the side that grips the rotor.

HAWK pads as suppose to be good. lot of the dakota owners use them with powerslot rotors. know its not jeeps but we are distant cousins

PFC = Performance Friction Carbon?

You should be able to get a pad with a good initial bite without resorting to a carbon fiber pad. It sounds like you may have 'glazed' yours.

Have you tried Raybestos ... their Super Stop or Brute Stop pads?

Just be careful when selecting a friction material. Some don't work well until you've built up a fair amount of heat in them.

I have had the best luck on my Jeeps with the ceramic pads from Autozone. They seem to stay the quietest and I like the lack of brake dust on my wheels.

On two 2001 XJ's I have replaced the brake system with: new OEM master cylinder and PRAISE DYNO BRAKE Thermocooled drums/discs/pads/shoes and HD springs plus all hardware. Went also to aftermarket to install DOT/FMVSS stainless steel braided hoses.

A big improvement. Unfortunately, first one totalled by red light runner (thank *** for these brakes!) and second has 10m miles at present.

Great people to work with.

On my wife's TJ, I use ceramic. She'll spend way more then the difference in price in wheel cleaner if I don't. In her usage, I can get over 3 years out of them (50k+). I just changed out her pads due to having one caliper bind during a longer trip to suburban Baltimore. It would hang up when heated ..so when I replaced both calipers ..new pads went in. Otherwise, they would (I estimate) been on there another year or two.

My other Wrangler. My one daughter lunched two sets of pads and scored the rotors under warranty. I told them the toe was off and they finally aligned it. The pads that I paid for (dealer install) have been on there since under 12k. I'm just replacing them now @ 56k+. That's an auto, though, so they'll wear a little faster.

So, in my opinion, just get the upper offering from whomever you frequent. The quality level and prices appear to be stable and comparable everywhere I went. I paid around $65+/- for the ceramics and $40+/- for the pads that I'm putting in my jeep.

I think the difference will be how often you clean the wheels.
