Would any of you agree it would be nice to have two seperate forums here. One for syn and one for conventional?
There are those of us who could care less about synthetics and those who could care less about conventionals. Is there a way this could be suggested?

I do not agree. The board is fine the way it is. Both subjects (dino/syn) tend to morph into each other anyway.

I find that the morphing you speak of is more of a nuisance, and it gets in the way of what people are really trying to find out. As an example, Castrol GTX does not compare to Castrol Syntec, and when you have someone trying to narrow down which conventional they want to use, and then synthetic get brought into the equation, then it only confuses the ever living he!! out of them. I say, if you want to talk synthetic, then do so in a place that is dedicated to it, same for conventional.

Sure, and let's also have separate forums for 0w-20, 5w-20, 0w-30, 5w30, 10w-30, 0w-40, 5w-40...

We also need separate forums for various types of synthetic... Group III, Group III+, Group IV, Group V...

Poor synthetic blend folks... they won't know where to post.

we'll just referre the syn blen folks to the conventional site since that stuff is a ripoff anyway. 20 percent syn and charging at many times a dollor or two less that full syn? give me a break. I understand now why people like to blend their own.

I think that 2 forums would be a good idea.

One fact and one fiction.

The only problem is the fiction forum would be quite a bit bigger. And that's a fact.

Great point. The way BITOG is going, the FACT forum would be completely empty.

You would first need to define what is synthetic and what is conventional. Doing so would create an epic battle.

I could care less about whether an oil is conventional or synthetic, just how it performs. Dividing up between synth and conventional makes no sense to me at all. As I said in another thread, I'd love to see all the announcements of products found on sale, the appearance of a new PeeUwww product at WalMart, etc. moved to a separate forum so that PCMO stays more technical, but keep the different oil types all together so comparisons stay easier.

well....LOL...I guess I stand corrected then. There must not be a need... see if the mods will delete this post...haha

I suppose this would make it easier for some folks to deny their convictions a little easier with the least cognitive dissidence possible.

On a more serious note, I think the separation of products by uses serves the purpose better than by product. Other wise, we'll likely see double posting on the conventional and synthetic end when people aren't partial to one over the other.

It is a good idea but, given the current forum format, would cause a little more restrictive flow of information and posting because it isn't congruent.

Plus, I think the interaction between the groups allows for more information per thread than having just a few folks all on one side of the fence who need not post after one of them makes the comment they all have in agreement.

Just my $.02 though.

Good point. A true synthetic isn't (and wasn't a number of years ago) the same as some "synthetics" or "full synthetics" out there, per se, and that just makes it confusing for many.

In all seriousness I'd love a more technically driven section. We all love our oil. I just want to make sure I'm loving the right one!
