With the 40% off sale at NAPA, I'm thinking of grabbing some NAPA Gold oil filters. I've been using the Pure One's in a couple of my vehicles. If price is the same, which would you choose for a daily driver with normal (not extended) OCI's? Does it even matter since no extended OCI?

Depends on the filter I guess.

For my Cobalt, it looks like I can get a NG for less than $5 with this sale, a PureOne on sale at Farm & Fleet will run a little over $7, while a regular Purolator will be something like $5.25.

I'm a firm believer in getting as much for your money as possible, and if the NG is cheaper than a "normal" filter for your application, I say go for it. Extra filtration for less cost never hurts. Otherwise, if you're not extending the OCI, any, decent, regular filter will do.

On my apps, the WIX is better made but the P1 has a lot more media. I really wouldn't care, whatever you can get for less or more easily.

"regular Purolator will be something like $5.25."

That's nuts. Farm and fleet has the classics 2 for 5 bucks almost every other month. Now that's finding value. Unfortunately, they only have the 14610 (Honda/Kawi) and no 14477 (Toy).

Flip a coin. They're both about the best filter you can get. I'd give the P1 the edge on media since the Wix (Napa Gold) is a more conventional media like a regular Purolator. But I give the Wix a slight edge on bypass spring design. Both have good ADB valves, although P1 probably has the edge there. I use them interchangeably.

I use both. The Wix bypass displaces more filter media and the bypass assembly is assembled onto the top of the core (base-end) without any core to assembly gasketing - metal to metal. I dont think there is any practical concern with this assembly though.

For the spin-ons like the L10111 for my Malibu, yes.

However, for my Cobalt the L15436 is a cartridge, and despite no steel, they cost more. When F&F does the 2/$5 deal, they also have a 10%-off "other filters" which the 15436 falls under.

I've used both, but going with PureONE for all my vehicles now. The PureONE has a better filtering performance than the WIX or NAPA Gold. Both are good filters, but if the same price I'd choose PureONE every time.

I use both Napa Gold/Wix and P1/Bosch. The NG is a better built can, the P1 better media. I like them both.

NG is a fine filter but better can then a P1? they seem the same to me,both well built.

I just picked up a Napa Gold 1356 today for $4.50 (40% off sale). I will be replacing a PureOne PL14610 in April with the NG.

Stay with the PureOne...it a much better filter....

If you check with the Pureolator website (www.pureoil.com) later in the year, they will have a promotion for a mail-in rebate of $2 off PureOnes...so you should be able to get them for about $3.95 (after rebate). Thats the time to stock up.

At $3.95...theres not a better filter out there.

I purchase them a a store called Bi-Mart and several times a year the have a $1 of
PureOnes.....total price then (after rebate ) is $2.95. What a buy!

cool have to grab a few, thanks for the heads up....

Pure One for total filtering but if you get a great price on the NAPA Gold's go for it as they are great filters.

Make sure the air filter is well sealed! that will make the biggest difference in engine life. The oil filter especially at your oil change intervals won't make a noticeable difference.
