Is the MC 5W20 oil a synthetic oil or like many other off the shelf "synthetic" labeled out, is it just marketing?

This will be going in my Fiesta ST which still has the factory fill that I'm thinking of ditching (car has 1200 miles)

It at least was hydrocracked Group 3 per the "expert" when we all took a class on it. He did give me the dear in the headlights look when I asked if it was a Group 3, 4, or PAO.

Here's the specs straight off Motorcrafts' website:

SAE Grade 5W-20
API Service GF-5/SN
Specific Gravity
@ 60°F (15.6°C) 0.852
Density, lb/gal 7.09
Flash Point, COC, °C (°F) 229 (444)
Viscosity:
cSt @ 100°C 8.3
cSt @ 40°C 45.9
cP @ -30°C 4,000
Viscosity Index 159
Pour Point, °C (°F)
looks pretty stout to me ....

The oil is synthetic. That is what the label says synthetic. What bothers me is how the oil companies mostly want you to buy the oil but don't think enough about the customer to tell you what is in it.

If you call Amsoil and ask what base oils they use will they tell you? Why buy the pricey oil if they won't tell?

I have a new 2016 FX4, 2700 miles now, After going to La. last weekend and Tenn yesterday and today,,, getting itchy to change the oil from FF. I plan to have the dealer do my first OC, mainly because I recently had a knee replacement and I cannot physically do it yet. I have not ever read any negative about ''Motorcraft'' oils yet---- I do have, and will use Mobile 1 EP 5w20 and Fram Ultra or Mobile EP filter when able to do my own. Any body disagreeing---- please chime in and show me the error of my ways.....Thanks in advance......

Depending which product from Amsoil there is quite a bit of Viscom. I don't see the issue because Viscom preforms just as good as PAO in anything but Antarctica.

If the oil company posts a recent PDS on their website it is usually good oil.. Was this at least a 2016 spec. sheet? Some oil companies are elusive and make their PDS very hard to find and some have been a few years old.. If this is a pds from 2016 that would be nice.
Mobil and Valvoline are usually good about listing their PDS.

Double Vamos is right on. Motorcraft is a high quality oil made by Conoco Phillips for Ford. I have run it in my lady's Camry with very good results. It has cleaned up the inside of the motor and cut down oil burning.

No, there's not many "real" synthetics left. Group 3's are matching or exceeding their performance in wear and durability and they're much cheaper to produce and distribute.

I don't see the point in PAO or ester based oils with how good group 3's have become. And who wants the hassle of going through an Amsoil or Redline dealer just to get their dang oil when you can go to AutoZone and buy it off the shelf without having to wait?
