Good morning all.... If anyone could suggest a larger oil filter replacement for my 2002 Mitusbishi Lancer / 4G94 4cyl I'd appreciate it.

Direct fit part #'s:

Mobil.......M1-110
K&N.........HP1010
Bosch.......3323
Supertech...7317

Thanks for any help...

My 99 Nissan Maxima SE uses those same replacements. The recommended oversized filter is the STP S6941 (17-22 psi bypass valve) and Purolator PureONE PL24458 (8-10 psi bypass valve). I use the STP. Note: The only reason I use the oversized filter is that my drain intervals are at 5-6k miles. But as always, use at your own risk.

After reading some of the references and looking at settings/sizes/diameters I have a headache.

One thing I would say is that The filters mentioned are already oversize for some Nissan Vehicles (in fact I think all after year 2000). I think I would just stick with the K&N HP-1010 which is (I believe) the largest in that diameter/gasket size in the K&N. I feel confident that this filter can provide the required flow and go extended drain interval. I have taken it to 6800 miles on my 2L Sentra.

Thanks for the responses guys, it's looking like K&N or the M1. I just cut open a Bosch 3323 and I didn't like the looks of all the extra glue over the filter element and the pleats looked a bit uneven.

I have seen that on other filters. Look at the bottom of a Mobil 1 filter and you may see a big wad of glue. It's probably a fact of life with Champion Filters.

I really don't think its a problem (IMHO)

Al, I tried to look inside the M1 without taking a dremel to it for now, since my curious george factor has not quite peaked enough for today to cut up the $11 I just paid at Autozone.

I see what you mean about the blobs of glue - just wish there wasn't so much of it, especially since there's little dots of it on the main pleats here and there as well..

I included a few pics for random consumption...
Main Cutaway Shot - 3323
Glue at Bottom End - 3323
Some More Glue and Pleat Spacing - 3323
More Pleat Spacing - 3323

At least it's not the clicker bypass for now I guess.
