What does "close the gap with the all season contact" mean?
are you saying they were focused on improving its winter traction?
 
If you look at the only obvious change in CC2, they made the sipes longer on the central part of the thread by zigzagging them. So that would indeed be a purely winter weather optimisation
 
I see on the CrossClimate2 they downgraded the traction rating to B. I wonder how much difference this will make vs. the SUV or + versions (or any competition)?
