I've always mixed mayo and ketchup myself.

Mayo and ketchup mixed in the right proportion tastes almost like thousand island dressing to me. I'll tell you what's good, mixing the olive oil mayo with sweet baby ray's hickory BBQ sauce! It tastes like the dipping sauce at Red Robin.

When I eat boiled shrimp or crawfish I make a 50/50 dipping sauce using ketchup and horseradish sauce. C'est Si Bon!

I saw someone mentioned Miracle Whip earlier... My wife is from the South and she likes it. Sometimes I'll refer to it as Trailer Park Mayonnaise.
Makes her crazy.
I like it too. It just amuses me to set her off sometimes.

I had someone ask me if I was from Michigan when I blended ketchup and mayo for my fries because I wanted to. I still do it if both condiments are available, more so at the ski resort or places with self-serve condiments.
