About how long should valvoline maxlife syn blend be good for with a Wix 51085 filter before due to be changed?

Without knowing a lot more information the generic answer would be about 5000 miles.

Some important factors would be what vehicle and engine is the oil in??

As well as how many miles you drive per day and year? 5000 Highway miles will be much easier 5000 miles at 3 miles per day.

What is your climate?

Also has the vehicle had proper oil changes in the past or was is abused?, how many miles on engine?

Thanks here goes 05 dodge ram 1/2 ton 61,000 miles. 4.7 liter. Unknown past just bought vehicle about 2k miles ago. It is only driven an average of maybe 10 miles a day. Most days only 2 miles. I live in KS so temp varies from cold to very hot.

I agree with this.

I'd change it every 4,000 miles in your situation.

The reason for maxlife after talking to friend who is an engineer in this field and factory reps is. Why not??? It helps keep good seals good and cleans engine. So the answer is why wait till you have a problem if the prevention is the also the cure. Maxlife does more than just fix weak seals it helps keep stuff good. It does not hurt a thing to run it. It only helps keep stuff good. So why not???

Yes, no problems with MaxLife on a new engine, it's SN so required to work well with modern seals.

Even non-HM oils have seal conditioners, just MaxLife has a touch more, but still well within acceptable limits.

The Valvoline web site says about MaxLife: "it is perfectly acceptable to use the high mileage motor oil in new or used vehicles with less than 75,000 miles."

5,000 miles sounds like a good starting point. To be 100% certain a UOA would be the only way to know for sure.

Im skeptical about this...if its so effective on new vehicles wouldnt most people be using it instead of non HM oil? My own personal take on it, is that I will use HM when I need it but so far at nearly 150k miles, I dont burn any or use any. My opinion is, if it aint broke why fix it. I would like to hear about someone who used it on a new car to see if it helps prevent oil leaks/burning with age...

No reason to avoid using Maxlife in that engine - it isn't like stop leak. I know of one engine with 420,000 miles that's had Maxlife in it since 170,000 and it's in excellent shape, so it isn't just a last-ditch concoction to stop oil consumption. 4-5K sounds good, or annually if you don't log that many miles.

I agree about using MaxLife even before leaks develop, as it helps to keep to prevent leaks by keeping seals in good shape.

That said, since you're doing almost entirely short trips, I would say change the oil @ 5000 miles or after one year, whichever comes first.

Maxlife is probably Valvoline's best oil IMO especially when you figure in price. Since you short trip the 5k suggested should be a good interval.
