I bought a 2007 Civic Ex 5speed coupe made on 5/07 on the door jam date. Had about 6 miles so probably sat on lot all year long. Should I change the oil? Oil looks nice and clean despite sitting around for 7 months on the lot.

I agree with ProfPS, try Havoline Deposit Shield if you decide to change but I would leave it in to at least 3K, to get the benefits of the original factory fill's high moly content assembly lube. I left my FF in until 4600 miles and have a zero oil use engine at 38K. I have used old Formula Havoline 5w-20 since 20K and it stopped the minor oil consumption that I had up to that point.

If the car is mainly a short trip vehicle, I would change it at 1K with a fresh filter and new Havoline.

i changed my o7 lx oil after 8 months and 4100 miles of mostly city driving. I would say keep it in there for 1k miles. then change it out.

I changed the oil in my '03 Civic at 3,300 miles. With 58,000 miles to date, it has never used any oil. I use PP 5W-20 with a 5,000 mile interval.

In your warm climate, I doubt there's any problem with your oil. I would run it for 3K or 6 months - whichever comes first. Those Honda engines really like Pennzoil conventional too. Hondas do not require moly to last a full lifetime of the vehicle. It's just there in a supplement that's added to the factory fill.

Leave the high-moly break-in oil in there. If it is a question of getting acids out or allowing the rings to seat properly, have the rings seat properly with the moly lube.

I have a 2003 civic with 106K miles on it. I left the factory fill in there until 5500 miles, and it has had redline synthetic 5w20 ever since. Doesn't eat a drop of oil. Leave the moly in - those honda engineers put it there for a reason.

On both of my Hondas, each one was new when purchased the service dept manager said Honda highly reccomends leaving the factory fill oil in until your first scheduled OCI to help insure proper break in.We did as suggested and neither engine to this day uses any oil between changes.Running MC5K in both with no leaks or any other issues. Both over 75K but holding off on the HM oil until it is needed. Both vehicles avg higher fuel economy than CAFE numbers on the sticker.
