Hello and the neighbor has a 94' jeep cherokee with the 4.0 in it. Previous owner took real good care of it, no real oil leakage or rust at all. He asked me what kind of filter he should use with this vehicle, and I said try a PureOne filter, or a WIX. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated, and his oil he is using is Rotella Syn Blend Gray Jug 10w30

The 4.0 I6 in that Jeep is a great motor, I would just step it up to Rotella t6 5w40, the 4.0 likes 40 weight.

Purolator and Wix are excellent choices for an OCI under 7.5k, tell him to stay the course.

I like Wix(& NAPA Gold), Purolator, or Motorcraft. Years ago, my Neon 2.0 DOHC gave extra valve train noise at startup with a a couple of Pure One oil filters. Because of that I'd prefer a regular Purolator over a Pure One- but that's just me.

Excellent oil he's using, BTW.

Hey Brenden, I may give him one of the Rotella T6 5W40 since I have two jugs. He plans to use a pureone, as I dont think that WIX are real cheap unless you find them on sale.

Thank you Stuart Hughes and he may go to Rotella T6 since I have two jugs of it and no real use for it.

I have the same engine. Manual calls for 5w30 in cold climates. Purolator pure one or bosch or mobil filter for oil filter. Great engine will last a long time with good care and products. Mine runs great and has only had good regular oil changes with good products.

i have a 2000 cherokee with the 4.0,,use it on the mail route 5 days per week,,i use mobil super 5000 with a motorcraft FL1a OIL FILTER,,never had any issues.

There isn't a specific era of 4.0L's that had piston skirt issues. Broken skirts aren't all that common, but it does happen.
