Is there a product to clean valves in engines?

I would second that on the Regane, very good overall cleaner and works on Gasoline and Diesel as well.

What about the old run the engine with a vacuum hose stuck in the bottle of Techtron, Regane (why do I think of hair growth products when I see that name

, or was it Rogane?), Seafoam, etc. Would not that treatment be more likely to blast the crud off the valves and in short order. Also follow up with an Italian Tuneup--a 10 to 20 mile freeway run in a lower gear so you are turning maybe 4000 rpm all the way with occasional bursts to 5000 and engine braking. Fun too!

Rob,

FP, FP, FP....you'll never need anything else. Don't just clean your system, but treat the fuel (gas or diesel) as well.

If you've really need something strong then my vote is for a can of BG44k. Strong stuff but make sure to change your oil afterward. It can really make your oil's TBN plummet!!

Chevron with Techron Concentrate, Regane, and Redline are both good OTC products but Fuel Power is my current choice of additive.

I didn't know FP worked on valves. I'm using it in 3 old pick-ups with great results. I also have it in my lawn mowers.

I'm glad to hear FP is cleaning the valves in addition to everything else it is doing.

Exactly what is FP ? Where do you buy it ? IS it expensive ? Better than Seafoam ??

Rob Taggs - Since you are looking for a solution to clean your valves. I guess you must have seen them being dirty. Would you be kind enough to take a few photos of the dirty valves, take some more after the treatment of your chosen product, and share the before and after photos with us? I am really curious to see how well this particular product does on cleaning your dirty valves. Thanks.

Isn't it reasonable to assume there would be some crud on the valves after so many miles? Really, few people are actually going to pull the head and look at the valves or even use a boroscope. If there is a product that is reputed to clean them and he uses it, well maybe he will be better off. Most of us can't afford (time or $$$) to actually check if any of this stuff really works. If we use a product and get a seat of the pants improvement in the engine's power and/or smoothness, then that is sufficient, albeit very subjective and maybe not significant (i.e., 1% improvement, 99% psycological).

I have been using Redline SI-1 (not particularly to clean valves though, but the whole system) and am thinking of switching to Fuel Power and/or Neutra. Not sure how to tell objectively if either are better. All I can do is try it and if things feel better stay with it. I am pretty confident that something needs to be added to the fuel as my understanding is the fuel in the U.S. is basically crappy.
