I have a bunch of old Gumout… what to do with it?

I was helping neighbor clean out her garage. Her late husband passed away in 2008. On the shelf was a variety of old motor oil, antifreeze, and four old cans of old school gumout. This was not spray cans, but a screw cap where you pour it directly in the carburetor.

How old? It’s so old there are no barcodes on these cans. Iam thinking early 80s at least and maybe older.

I’m wondering if it’s any good? I imagine I can use it for cleaning parts, maybe degreaser, etc. but I don’t know what I’m gonna do with it all. Can I put it in my modern car? (2013 Siena) or what? How about proper disposal?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks!

CM

If you really are looking to help her out, ( she must be up there in age too ), just mix it in with you're used motor oil and take it to wherever you take you're fluids. Don't put that old gumout in you're car, or anybody's car. Now she's gonna bug you to get rid of the rest of the stuff. I would have told her to call 1-800-GOT-JUNK. They take care of all that stuff. Would cost her some $$$$, but if you feel like doing it, go right ahead. You're decision. I would have went with the phone number and stay out of it. 1-800-GOT-JUNK has all the licenses to dispose anything. I wouldn't offer you're services except for the gumout. Give her the phone number and let her deal with it. Before you know it, you'll be cleaning out the whole garage. You really want that headache ?????

Thanks for the info. The lady is nice and needs help. I’m already involved. I shovel her snow, and in return I get baked goods at least 10 times a year. She was always nice to my children and remembers them on their birthdays.I got a few quarts of old but I think still good 10 W 40 which I think I’ll use a half a quart at a time in my oil changes. Bring stuff to the recycling is the least I can do for this person. And yes, I’m already cleaning out the whole garage.

One more thing I found: a quart can of Rislone engine treatment. Apparently you’re supposed to pour this in the engine before an oil change and it helps loosen up sludge. I’m not letting that touch my engine with a 10 foot pole. lol. Do you think mixing that in with my used engine oil Before I recycle it is OK?

I remember using that Rislone on my first car, it was a '78 Civic. The rings were gummed up and this did the trick if I remember correctly

Why not? ;)

Mixing it with the used oil is fine. That's what you would do if you actually used it :)

I bet that gumout would be excellent parts cleaner. If you use a little at a time in a small container, wash your part and dump it in your garbage can. The garbage will soak it up and most would probably evaporate. I do that even with Brakleen and other solvents.
