A few weeks ago I was excited that the dealer in the town I moved to offered $2x.xx oil changes. I was pumped because we are renting a place and I didn't want to find the ramps, light, oil, filters, etc in boxes or deal with changing on property that wasn't mine without a garage. Well, I couldn't bring myself to take my car to the dealer. I felt she might get mad at me and throw a CEL or something if I let someone else tighten her drain bolt and filter.

Also, as per BITOG rules, I have a question about the oil I used. I had 6 quarts of NAPA Synthetic Dexos 1 certified. My car uses 5 but will need a 6th to top off before the interval is over. Anyway, I drive about 10 miles each way to and from work each day, half highway, half slow city (rarely stop, but usually not over 20mph...weird roads) and I take my car on usually one or two longer (40-80 mile) trips each week as well. Temps are moderate in the winter (30-60). Also, I'm pretty easy on my car. Will the NAPA Synthetic last for the full 3,000 mile interval or should I change it sooner? Also, do you think I could push it to 5,000 miles?

Ok, but seriously, I just couldn't resist. I'll run this oil for 7 months or about 5-8K miles. And that's probably not long enough but I start getting anxious if I haven't changed oil in 7 months.

What car do you have and what does your manual say. You're asking if a synthetic oil will make it to a 3k interval?
And youve been in this forum for more than 1 day? I think you already know the answer

If I lived in MN, you couldnt pay me to get on the ground and change oil October-April. I'd use a shop for those months.

Napa synthetic is good stuff. Most modern cars can go 7.5K to 10K on synthetic no problem, depending on what car you own, which you haven't told us.

GM folks with OLM on them routinely go over 7k miles on the Dexos approved oils. I would firmly believe you will be just fine with this as well.

I'm wondering if OP is a troll!

I troll once in a while. Notice my "...per BITOG rules" (as in I have to ask if synthetic will go 3K miles like half the other questions on here) and "OK, but seriously, I couldn't resist" (as in I couldn't resist asking the above question). And then I actually state what I plan to run the oil (about 7 months and 5-8K miles). It was meant to be a humorous post.

I lurk a lot, post a little. And I really cannot believe how serious some people are about pretty ridiculous questions. So I was having some fun. Sorry, I'll go to bed.

Also, I moved from MN. I used to change oil in my fully insulated garage in the winter months. Without turning heat on it'd stay about 40 degrees. Felt warm when it was -30 outside.

Rhino ramps makes it pretty easy. You could do the whole oil change in 30 minutes or less if you're worried about the landlord catching you. Hopefully the other tenants won't nark on you.

Got the jokes. Good call on avoiding the dealer.

Ramps are good. Neighbors are not

One of the advantages and worthwhile expenditure to have a heated garage. Best $700 I ever spent on something was the Sterling propane fired ceiling mounted heater.
