I have a red brick road nearby and am in the process of possibly being able to legally obtain the excavated brick before they are hauled away. If i am able to pull this off, I do not want 2 or 3 times what I need, but do not want to be short either. Any way to calculate?

In case you are wondering the shed floor is dirt, with a some really old non treated hard wood planks simply laid down on the ground. I want to tear all this out and lay this free brick down for a more permanent fix.

simple area calculation?

total area / area of a single brick = bricks needed (then add some for broken, etc.)
edit - if adding mortar, include that in your area calculation...well two sides of it anyways.

Are you just hand laying them in direct contact with each other? Or do you intend to put mortar between them?

I’d think that the measurement of the brick with the mortar gap would be straightforward. Then add 20%.

If they're in good condition, get the 2-3X more than you need, then sell them to someone that needs them for a good price.
