Gonna go ahead and send in a sample for testing, but how much is needed for the test?

Thanks.

The kits usually have containers for samples and a form to fill out. Where are you sending it? I dont think you can send a container to blackstone or Polaris. Typically 3-4oz is needed.

Heard there is a lab in Atlanta, but not sure of it's name, so I don't know yet.

Looked into Blackstone and Polaris.

Polaris is about 10 minutes away.

What are the prices (both labs) for a full UOA including TBN and whatever else is useful?

Is the preffered sample from oil as it is drained or in the middle of the OCI interval assuming u have a valve vs drain plug?

Also should the oil pour for a second and sample come from midstream as to not have any extra collected material that settled around the drain or valve?

TIA,
Anthony

Blackstone has all this info on the site

They recommend getting the sample "midstream" if you are getting the sample as you drain the oil....

If say, you are going for a 10k OCI, and are at 5k, then, I'd suggest going the dipstick route......B-S sells a pump for 20 bucks, Oil Testers, Inc. (part of Amsoil) has one for a little cheaper I think), or you can check my post history for the keywords "mixmizer" "ice maker kit" or some combination of those words

Basically, I made my "own" vacuum pump, using the mixmizer syringe, and a length of 1/4" O.D. ice maker tubing, and got the sample that way :P Took 2 "draws" of the Mixmizer/syringe, to get the 3-4 oz....but not too bad, for ~$6 or so

Mixmizer.
Icemaker kit.....
and some wire snips/scissors to cut the ice maker hose to length :P

Oh yea, answered your other Q too....yea, you need 3-5 oz. if I recall....basically, more the better....If I recall, they can do "some" of the tests with 1 oz....but not all of their tests.....but you still pay the same price :P

And either way, you gotta get the sampling kit....and it comes with directions. Just doesn't come with the pump :P

P.S. Don't try using an old fashioned "bulb siphon" that you'd use to siphon gas.....they suck (no..they don't....like yea they do suck, but I couldn't get mine to suck oil....lol.) which is why I made the DIY Mixmizer pump :P

P.P.S. Don't forget to warm up the engine oil....I went to Walmart to get the oil, Mixmizer, ice maker kit, and then went back home, and then drained it
