Blackstone has all this info on the site
They recommend getting the sample "midstream" if you are getting the sample as you drain the oil....
If say, you are going for a 10k OCI, and are at 5k, then, I'd suggest going the dipstick route......B-S sells a pump for 20 bucks, Oil Testers, Inc. (part of Amsoil) has one for a little cheaper I think), or you can check my post history for the keywords "mixmizer" "ice maker kit" or some combination of those words
Basically, I made my "own" vacuum pump, using the mixmizer syringe, and a length of 1/4" O.D. ice maker tubing, and got the sample that way

Took 2 "draws" of the Mixmizer/syringe, to get the 3-4 oz....but not too bad, for ~$6 or so
Mixmizer.
Icemaker kit.....
and some wire snips/scissors to cut the ice maker hose to length
Oh yea, answered your other Q too....yea, you need 3-5 oz. if I recall....basically, more the better....If I recall, they can do "some" of the tests with 1 oz....but not all of their tests.....but you still pay the same price
And either way, you gotta get the sampling kit....and it comes with directions. Just doesn't come with the pump
P.S. Don't try using an old fashioned "bulb siphon" that you'd use to siphon gas.....they suck (no..they don't....like yea they do suck, but I couldn't get mine to suck oil....lol.) which is why I made the DIY Mixmizer pump
P.P.S. Don't forget to warm up the engine oil....I went to Walmart to get the oil, Mixmizer, ice maker kit, and then went back home, and then drained it
