Decided I am going to go to the McDonalds (my strong point) and tell them I now work at a Dunkin Donuts and can be of great use to them particularly the one that says they are now hiring for part-time!

So, how much does working a 2nd job take out of you? I did so once wen i was 23...

Let's discuss!

I did for about 6 years or so (when I was in my 20s) and went to night school as well. Working 2 jobs you'll pretty much have no life. I guess it really wasn't too bad, because I was able to coordinate both schedules and had Sundays and Mondays off from both. But when I wasn't in school I worked sunup to sundown.

Been working two jobs for about 10 years.

Takes less time as making several thousand BITOG posts every month...

I hope I can do it better now that I am 31 and not 23.

I am trying to get the hiring managers of both local McDs on the phone. My experience there alone should get me in, even without the added DD experience....

I have worked 50-80 hours a week for many years. I don't do that any longer in my current position although I would if my employer needed me to.
Not that big of a deal.

50 hrs a wk here for one of big 3 US automakers in metro Detroit for last 18yrs!! Hope to do it till I retire when im approx 55yrs old or so...Go Amer Auto!! KEEP BUYING FOREIGN.. DONT WONDER WHERE UR JOB WENT!

I worked two jobs from age 40 to 50. Last year there I had to keep telling myself this was fun. There were other things changing that I didn't like also. So said the heck with it on my 50th B'day. Bad thing....I really liked working at NAPA. That next week I didn't know what to do with myself. Got over it by hanging more with the Grand kids.

This first job I am working 25-42 hours a week, and the second job would be,, part time.

Minimum wage, one is Dunkin Donuts the second would be McDonalds.

I am 31.

I also took JHZR2's challenge and when I saw "We are hiring part-time" I became motivated to take it seriously as to working at McDonalds...

+1

Your 2nd job should be night audit at a motel. After around midnight you just snooze and watch tv and surf the web. Depending how you spin it you could probably just roll over to DDs.

Ive always had 2 jobs. Start Mcds when 15 got another job at 18 and kept both. Dropped mcds when another job came up.

Currently I work 5:30 am to 9:30 am at one then 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at another. Only 2 days off a month.(Every OTHER sunday.) The money is NICE but it is starting to kill me.

Full time computer tech and the other is at a nursing home.

Everything has a cost. Working two jobs will cost you some rest and relaxation, maybe some time away from your hobbies. Working only one job will cost you the money you might make working the second job.

Sometimes doing something different for a period of time can be invigorating and stimulating, rather than just tiring. I am currently working on a little side business that is only peripherally related to my main business. Yes, it's more work, but there's satisfaction there, too.

If you're 31 and working for minimum wage, first, I applaud you for working, but secondly, you should be looking toward the future. Either work on learning a trade which will be worth more money to you, or perhaps work on moving up at DD. They'll need a shift lead eventually, maybe an assistant manager, and so on. When I was a teenager working in fast food, I just showed up, did what was required, and left. Another guy showed up early, left late, and generally did a better job than anyone else. He became the assistant manager, then got hired at Burger King as a store manager, and not too long after that (maybe a few years), went to work for BK corporate. It can happen.

You'll sacrifice time, but if you like it, it's not bad.

Having two jobs that suck is terrible, plain and simple.

Having a second job for fun or whatever isn't too bad though. I have a second part time job at a parts store because I like it. Financially it doesn't do much for me, but it is entertaining to be there for 8 hours or so a week and it's something on my resume.

Working two restaurant jobs would suck big time. I would never do that. I have never worked fast food, but I did work in the kitchen at an "upscale casual" restaurant and hated it by itself. Another restaurant offered me a second job and I had to turn it down even though I needed money at the time because I knew it would be too crazy.

Food service sucks. Try to get into ANYTHING else ASAP. Even picking up trash is better.

I think it also matters if they are similar or vastly different.

I have taken 2 second jobs over the past 5 years, mainly to get hobby money and exercise as my day job is at a desk.

If the pay is way different as it was in my case, then one needs to make darn sure the second job does not effect your day job.

I work hard, but no longer work excessive hours.

I can't imagine ever working a second job. Life goes by quickly and having some "spending money" is simply a luxury. I'm turning 50 next week and I look back at the years working too many hours with disgust. Mostly, I'm angry with myself for not using the time to do the things I needed to do.

Worked 2 jobs since I was 16, now I had 3 in the winter (sidewalk crew at a snow plow company) it's really draining, but it's nice to have the extra money to get something when I want it, rather than taking a more relaxed job.
