Hello all..

We love changing oil, going thru the motions, getting that new lube & filter in action and the satisfaction that it brings...

So, after 11 months and only 4488 miles im itching to change this signature series 10W30 and over-size EaO (old Amsoil spec, before the change to the newer filters) for some new oil/filter.

I've ended up using the car WAY less than expected so it now only does short trips in the area in mostly stop/go traffic, arely does it run for more than 30 minutes at a time

How long would you guys leave this before changing?...18 months?

I have 4 Qts of Formula Shell 10W40 conventional (from my humble stash) that I was going to use with some Lubegard Biotech and a NAPA gold 1334.

thanks

Amsoil says a year if you don't reach the miles. I'd say you should easily be able to go 18 months maybe longer since you live in S. Florida and don't have the winter cold and it's impact on your oil to contend with.

A UOA would let you know for sure.

I'd probably change it in the next 1-2 months. Then go to a cheaper synthetic (M1, PP, Castrol Edge, Synpower, QSUD, etc.) for a 1 yr/5K short-tripped vehicle.

I'd go 2 years. Reason is, last oil change I used Castrol gtx dino in my car for 13 months and only did about 1.2k miles. I did an uoa through blackstone and they said everything was up, I could go another year- meaning 2 years. Keep in mind that's not even on synthetic.

..think I'll go to 18 months and see how it feels then, I reckon anything less would be a crime. thanks for the perspectives!

What exactly are you feeling to make the determination?

Good question! 18 months it it, taking "me" out of the equation

I've started doing Oil Analysis on all the cars here and was surprised to see that the oil does not 'wear out' nearly as fast as the shops want us to believe. But sure, dirty oil needs to be changed and if your OLM is like 10%, sure.

My Fav Sunday driver, summers only, has 8,000 miles on the oil but has been sitting in the garage 5 years with the same oil.

Lab results show a "Total Base Number" of 4.8, meaning this oil is really at 'half life'. All additives were good and contaminates low....go figure! 5 years of sitting in the garage did not hurt at all. There was no water or coolant in the oil, which is a good reason to change right away.

Well I changed it last month and put a pair of FilterMags on it too! It'll be good for a lot of Sundays to come!

I'm not gonna do Oil tests for ever, just a bit more to get a real feel for how the oil actually deteriorates.
