Hello All,

I am suddenly very interested in the new Acura RDX. It uses the Honda 3.5 VCM V6, which I have read many complaints about in Odyssey vans and Accords for oil consumption issues, fouled spark plugs, and vibration issues.

I have also read that Honda has modified the pistons and rings, as well as the VCM software somewhat recently.

Does anyone know if this engine still consumes oil and/or has other issues?

I have that engine in my 11 Accord, haven't experienced any issues with oil consumption. Although some have experienced this with earlier versions on the engine. I wouldn't be concerned over this at all, it's a little sad Acura is moving away from the turbo 4 for the RDX. From what I've read the 3.5 is going to be DI for the 13, I'd be more concerned with this.

I am also extremely smitten over that new RDX. I think the styling is beautiful and tasteful. You see so many vehicles now proudly boasting their fake chrome-tipped dual exhaust tips...the RDX goes the other way and hides its dual exhaust tips for a subtle look. I'd have to admit to being a little sad over the loss of the quirky-but-cool turbocharged K23 engine, but it should be a winner with the 3.5L V-6.

From what I can tell, 2013 models (currently available now) are port injected. This is one of the main attractions for me... I'm a current owner of an IS250 and previous owner of a VW 2.0T - both direct injection, both known for carbon buildup.

I didnt' want to trade one bad new technology (DI) for another (VCM) unless I can verify owners with the latest revision of this engine are happy.

My 05 has the VCM. At 100,000 miles and I would say it is the nicest, smoothest engine I have owned. I can notice when it goes to 3 cylinders, but my wife cannot. Have gotten 30mpgs on an all-highway no weight trip. I would be more bothered by a timing belt. I will no longer buy cars with them because I am tired of doing them even though it is only every 7 years for me.
