Local advanced auto has 5 qts of synthetic havoline for $19.99 plus a p1 oil filter (can be substituted for any filter up to 11.99), how good is havoline synthetic? I do know its dexos certified but what else? And I will be substituting the p1 for the delco oem fliter.

It is a light 30grade good VI. I just picked up some myself. The AAP's in my area have not been able to keep this stuff on the shelves. Great deal on a quality lube.

I bought the last 5 qts in 5W20 and a P1 #10241. It's all they had when I walked in the store. I'd like to pick up some 5W30 on my next trip. Here's a link to PQIA Synthetics. Havoline 5W30 is included:

Havoline Synthetic deffinately looks to be at the lower range of the 5W30's. Probably good for those engines running 5W20's!
Anyone else think the same thing?

I notice the Havoline 5W30 TBN is only 7.7 which is on the low side ... I wonder if it will make a 7500 mile OCI ?

Well, IDK!

I think most of this Havoline syn excitement is based on the good deal at AAP right now. I don't see anything in the PQIA'a analysis to get me excited about it. Chevron makes great lubes and I'm sure it will serve just fine, but I believe I'd rather have Warren's SuperTech full syn and my choice of filters at Wally's for about the same money. JMO.

As Chubbs1 pointed alluded Havoline 5w30 is probably the lightest 30wt oil you can buy.
So if that's what you'd what look no further.
If you want a heavier 30wt then something else like Warren's LubriGold.

Dont know why it wouldn't.

We run the conventional Havoline to 5500 miles easily with no issues.

So I purchased the havoline synthetic in the flavor of 5w30/dexos1, I was forced to buy the purolater p1 filter, I really didnt want to go that route, I'd much rather use the oem delco filter. What are y'all's thoughts on the p1 oil filter?

It will work just as well as the OEM for your application even though it is overkill.

Have faith. Its complete overkill so I would consider extending the drain interval.

I think they pioneered the hydro cracking process which gave use group 3 "synthetic" oils.
I've never seen or heard anything bad in respect to the delo or chevron brands of oil,and I think havoline is also under their umbrella.
Their gasoline is great. I use their fuels as often as I can when in BC.

Without getting technical for $19.99 Havoline Synthetic and a P1 filter is a pretty darn good deal. In fact it's the first auto parts store promo in some time that actually beats everyday Wally prices on a comparable oil and filter combination. And with the P1 you get a silicone adbv and 99.9% efficiency. Think you'll get your money's worth out of this offer. Below links link to two threads with more thought on the Havoline Syn and P1 AAP promo, seems fairly popular here.

My thoughts are that I wouldn't wanna use the torn up thing. I would've haggled for an ACDelco or a WIX.

I never used havoline synthetic, but I have used their dino oil 10w40 and 20w50 in my 2 stroke dirt bike. It held up perfect.
