If you have oil bath axles and want to pack your bearings with grease also, does it matter what type of grease you use?

I have pumped Mobil 1 75W90 rear end oil into my boat trailer hubs that were packed with Mobil synthetic grease. That is the coolest they ever ran from Indiana to Florida on the Interstate.

We had some tanker trailers that were originally oil bath but the sealing surface was a little chewed up and oil would leak out. Our mechanic packed them with grease and they were ok. There was a sticker on the hub that said do not add oil, so my thoughts are either oil or grease but not both at the same time.
