What a coherent and well reasoned argument.

Lol. I don't know what's dumber, a 50 mpg car that meets the hauling and people moving needs of >75% of the population, or a pickup truck that eats priii as snacks, while hauling 1-2 people unloaded and returning 13 mpg.

And I'm allowed to poke fun and call the comment as ridiculous because I own a two-seater pickup. I just own six other cars to meet various needs as required.

How, exactly, does your truck "eat prius's for snacks"? You wouldn't be one of those pick-up truck drivers who uses the size of the truck to intimidate; who drives like they have an inherently greater right to the road because their truck makes them feel bigger than the "little cars"; who "looks down" on regular car drivers because they are bigger/tougher/stronger...like their trucks...

You wouldn't be one of them would you?

I was tailgated (on a city street, in rush hour, no where to go) by a pick-up truck driven by a sailor with that attitude...he drove within inches of my bumper, changed lanes like NASCAR and then drove inches off others' bumpers. He set quite the negative example.

I followed him to his work place on base. When he was restored to a military context from the social vacuum behind the wheel...the ensuing conversation took place between two actual people, not the imaginary world he envisioned behind the wheel of his Tundra...

It was quite a contrast for him...

VERY welll said. It is the left lane hogs more than the speeders who cause the most issues by forcing people to go around them. Keep Right everyone!

I-95 is three lanes wide in the area the OP describes, and I'm imagining that he was in the center lane. That's where I drive when I can--it minimizes lane changes to get around slower traffic and avoids the drivers who ignore their "yield" sign on the on-ramp. I don't need to do 80-plus in the fast lane, and it's unsafe to keep changing left into that kind of traffic to avoid the entering and under-limit vehicles.

Regarding Texas: It seems like those short on-ramps were designed by drag racers.

Prius drivers are the most disconnected drivers on the road. They have NO idea what they are doing (driving), where they are doing it (on the road), where they are going, who they are.

But they are better than me because they drive a prius.

I see similar "better than you" attitudes with people driving stupid loud VeeDubs and BMW's. You might see it more with certain brands, but classifying the whole customer base as that stereotype is a bit silly,no?

It's my experience, at least in this area, that the most agressive and rude drivers drive Jeeps. They tailgate closely, pass closely, speed around you, and cut back in agressively. This is over all Jeep models at all times of day and in all weather.

Just something I've noticed...

Other than that, the worst drivers are in old vans, are young women, then are soccer moms in whatever they are driving. Then it's people on phones and not paying attention.

But I don't ever recall ever being hit by, tailgated by, or being forced to change lanes, speed up, slow down, or anything by a Prius.

Just my experience.

Riiiight....but the minute they trade that Prius in and start driving something else (even within the same manufacturer) they are suddenly the most connected driver on the road, know exactly what they are doing, where they are going and who they are.

I've read some ridiculous things on BITOG, but this ranks quite near the top.

I believe it. I was driving to school minding my own business, the light turned green and just as I went to go someone in a Jeep went speeding through the red light. If I was two seconds faster I would've been hit. Bottom line is there are drivers who are incompetent, aggressive, etc, no matter what they drive or what age group they come from.

Since I live close to a college campus, the majority of the terrible drivers are college kids, or foreigners from a different country just here for their degree. The area someone lives in will determine what kind of idiot drivers they see.

For example, when my parents go to Florida they complain about all the elderly crazy drivers. My friend who lives near an Air Force base talks about all the crazy and aggressive soldiers who drive around. No matter where you are from there will always be some kind of crazy drivers no matter what vehicle they drive or who they are. I've seen them all.

Because a lot of the drivers of these roaches are candy bleep enviroweenies who go 5 under in the passing lane and act as though they are saving the planet by doing so. The rest of them are speeding, apparently because they think they are still saving the planet when going 85.

I get tailgated all the time, but I don't think I've ever been tailgated by someone driving a Prius...tailgaters are a-holes regardless what they're driving!

I was actaully just posting that to be funny and becuase I knew it would stir people up...more times than not my truck is driven the speed limit or under very rarely does it ever go over 65 on a hwy....I also have a car that meets my gas saving needs as posted in my sig under the truck....

I thing some vehicles bring out aggression in other drivers, my GTO, for example, just seemed to be a Honda Ricer magnet. The only thing I don't miss about it is the swarms of annoying Civics.

When I'm in one of the regular cars, my perception is that the most aggressive drivers are in an F series Ford, or one of the GM/GMC behemoth SUV's.

In the little Solstice, I perceive everything as aggressive, since even a Prius would probably flatten it.

^^^THIS!!

I learned to just ignore the little ricetards when they do their dangerous ricer weave in traffic to get on my rear bumper and rev their weed wackers at me.

I guess that they feel the need to 'prove' their Nipponphile, 'JDM Yo!' superiority over the "big bad domestic V-8"?

wow...

There's so much judgement nonsense in that post I don't know where to start....

It almost makes me wonder if the OP was acting in a passive aggressive manner to provoke the Prius driver.

You're kidding, right? What was he supposed to say - "I got rear-ended by a generic 4-door compact sedan"? Sooner or later someone is going to ask exactly what type of car it was that hit him.

Would you have asked your question if it was anything else besides a Prius?

Probably also the fact that they tend to be driven primarily by women (who, in my experience, are far more likely to tailgate than men).

Would the OP have posted what make of car hit him if it was anything other than a Prius? What was wrong with posting "some jack [censored] that doesn't know how to drive rear ended me ".

When some idiot drove into the back of my vehicle a couple summers ago, I posted on the Lexus forums that I was rear ended. Not once did I mention what kind of vehicle it was because the doofus could have been driving anything and he still would have hit me. It's not the vehicle that has poor driving skills, it's the driver.

I suppose had you mentioned what the other vehicle was, no one would have reacted - unless it had been a Prius.

That's if this thread is any indication.

Kind of like, "my car is infallible/perfect, so I can do ANYTHING at all and be invincible"??

Yeah, I can see that mentality in a lot of the uninformed, shlemming, appliance drivers.

Reminds me of the time I was turning left a few months ago. I was in the left-most left turn lane because I did NOT want to get on I66 east. Waiting for the light to turn green, a woman driving a Prius pulls up behind me.

I just knew what was going to happen next...

The light turned green, and I made my left turn. Apparently the woman behind me wanted to cut in front of everyone who was in the proper lane (the right-most left turn lane) to get on I66 east, because she really started spazzing out when she realized that I was in no hurry.

As I recall, she ended up coming to a complete stop in the left lane because nobody would let her in, and she ended up getting behind a dump truck that I'm fairly certain got into the proper lane after she got into the wrong one, and her behavior told me that she KNEW she got into the wrong lane, this wasn't someone lost, this was someone who commutes on I66 5 days a week, and she probably tries to pull that maneuver every day.

That's not all. That Prius story reminded me of another one..

Some years back, I was driving to work and a woman in a Camry pulled in front of me going at least 5MPH slower than I was. I went go pass her on the right and she decided to speed up. !?!??! Ok, so you decide that you want to go 80MPH instead of 60MPH *AFTER* I decide to pass you?

Whatever--I pulled right in front of her. She didn't like that and decided she'd try to pass me.

I figured that turnabout is fair play, so I played the same game with her.

There was a left turn lane coming up ahead, and I could tell from her gestures and her attempts to get me to move by honking and drifting into my lane (really?) that she REALLY needed to be in that lane.

She didn't get into that lane. Somehow, no matter what she did, my car was always in the way, so she couldn't get into the left turn lane.

When I last saw her she looked like she was about to pop a head gasket. I just smiled at her as I went by. That really made her go off.

Come to think of it, I wonder if she's related to the ditz in the Prius I described above.

So yea, women driving their Toyotas like idiots and then spazzing out when things don't work like they want seems to be more common around here than it should be.

And how about that dent on the rear corner of the bumper most of them have? Do they come from the factory that way?
