I will be helping a friend change the fluid in his 2011 GMC Yukon with a 6.2 liter engine and AWD. The owners manual specs Synthetic 75w90 but does not mention limited slip additive and actually does not differentiate AWD from conventional 4WD. I plan on using a synthetic 75w90 with LSA built in. Does anyone know the story if built in LSA is sufficient or if typically it needs a separate limited slip additive? (If at all). Thanks.

I assume this one is just like mine with the 8.625” rear diff. Are you changing fluid in both diffs? Neither is a clutch type limited slip. The front is an open differential. The rear should be the G80 centrifugal locker. Your 75w90 you plan to use will be fine. The transfer case uses a 60/40 planetary to split the power between the front and rear. You should replace the 2 quarts of Dex VI while you are doing the work if it hasn’t been done in a while.

Valvoline or Mobil 1 syn 75w 90 will do well.
It has LS additives in it already
