I'm having issues linking it but in the February issue of Lubes & Greases Magazine there are two good articles - one of GF-6 and the improvements over GF-5, which look to be substantial and also an article titled "Synthetics are coming." In that article they talked about base oils, demand for lower volatility in lower viscosity grades and how XOM Chemical rested over 200 different materials. Esters and I believe a new PAO.

If anyone wants to link the article feel free.

Thanks, gonna look for it. Sounds like a good read.

Here's a brief description of each of the new eight engine parameters for modern engines:

Sequence IIIH - Requires 33 percent improvement over GF-5 for oxidation and deposits.
Sequence IVB - Provides improved valve train wear.
Sequence V - Ensures substantially reduced sludge and varnish.
Sequence VIE - Requires 19-39 percent improvement in fuel economy, depending on oil viscosity.
Sequence VIF - A new minimum fuel economy test for 0W-16 motor oil only.
Sequence VIII - Improves GF-6A corrosion.
Sequence IX - Verifies minimum level of LSPI protection.
Sequence X - Assures less timing chain wear.

I thought the consensus here at BITOG was most oils already meet the new specs.

How would Bitog now this?

Speculation I guess.

Yeah, i guess you're right. We do do that here often.

Waiting for the day oil makers put on their bottles, "Meets and exceeds ILSAC GF-6A." Then you'll know they're ahead of the game.
