I know it's been a topic of discussion many times before, but it amazes me that SOPUS has such a second rate internet team. For months the PDS link on the Ultra page led to "this page doesn't exist," even though the PDS was available at Shell's website. Now guess what? The link on the main Ultra page now leads to the March 2010 PDS of SM rated Ultra. What are they doing over there?

I hope this is an indication that almost all of their resources are put into the product....sure doesn't seem to go to the IT department.

The whole concept of "consumer friendly" is lost on SOPUS in the US. I've given up on it a long time ago, but I still use their oil.

Having spent almost thirty years in the research department of a large corporation, I can tell you that what you see reflects a management decision as to where to put their money. Many decisions like this are made by management fiat, not after a careful analysis of data. Many times, management folks make decisisions based on accomplishing "objectives" such as "I will reduce the cost of IT by 10% in the next 12 months." So they start pulling plugs to get the bonus associated with the objective.

After a few years, the complaints build up, a new manager writes an objective like"I will improve customer firendly service by 25% as measured by results on customer surveys." Eventually the site is updated and the process begins all over.

In times of tight budgets, layoffs, downsizing, etc, it is really hard to go to your boss and say that you want to hire a new guy to update the web site for Pennzoil when the Shell site has the info. None of this makes it the right thing to do, it is just the way it works.

No excuse. But who looks a oil sites other than a handfull of BITOG'ers

Being "best" doesnt mean best at everything. The somewhat accepted "best" grocery store chain for pricing and service is "Market Basket"....but low and belhold, they dont have a website at all. They feel the money spent on it would make them jack up pricing to pay for it.So,just because an outfit is second rate on the web (check out Amalie's website for example),doesnt mean the whole company is lousy.
