First off, I just want to mention an observation I made. I didnt think anything like this existed anymore:
I know its hard to read, but it is the stamp on the new STP filter I installed, it reads "Product of USA".
I have always used Fram air filters, mainly because I would think about changing my air filter while browsing the oil isle at Wallys and Fram is the only air filter Wallys sells. I rented a compression tester from Autozone last night for my dads car and went to return it today. I was killing time looking around and finally thought about my air filter in some other place besides Wally World lol. I typically dont change the air filters on a schedule and check the every other oil change or so, but the packages suggest replacement every 12 months or 12,000 miles and I do know that it has been well over 12,000 miles and between 10-12 months since I changed it last. So, I meandered outside and checked the Fram that has been filtering for the past year and found this:
A perfect opportunity to try a different air filter, and one that is made in the US rather then China, or in this case Mexico:
I tend to use paper filters only as I work in a very dusty environment, and frankly dont trust K&N to filter my air in city driving. I did try one of their overpriced, only fit for the trash drop ins and it fit so horribly that I couldnt even close the air box, swore them off then and have never been let down by paper. This STP fit right in the filter box and the lid went on a smooth as it ever did before. I bought the STP replacement and feeling good about myself for buying a "Product of USA" item I grabbed my helper and went out to change it. I dont know if this makes any kind of difference but the pleats on the Fram seemed to be 1/2" longer then the STP. Im not sure why but I tried to grab it the best I could in the next pictures. Maybe thats where the $3 saved at the register translates to the assembly line:
I dont forsee any issues by this, but if anyone does, or has had a bad experience due to it please let me know.
Last but not least, we all know how difficult it can be changing out an air filter, and its dang near impossible to do it while taking pictures. As I stated before I did have help and I must give credit where credit is due, and I hope a picture is enough to suffice for lending me a hand:
