Was at my Wal Mart today, my GF was looking at fabrics colors so I wondered my way down to the oil section--imagine that!! While I was waiting for her to show up, 4 different guys probably between the ages of 18 and 55 were there to get oil filters. All 4 of them grabbed the OCOD. Only 2 guys picked up oil though. One was a 5qt. jug of PYB & the other Motorcraft Synblend 5qt. jug!

Malwart shoppers seem to love mixing expensive Mobil 1 oil with a cheapo fram filter. Though around here I see fewer people buying supplies there than I did even ten years ago.

Maybe, like myself, they've found better deals elsewhere on most stuff.

Though the purolator ecotec filter for $3.27 is a steal.

Last time I was killing a couple of minutes in the oil isle some guy was buying M1EP and looking at an Extraguard. He had that glazed look between the EG, TG, and Ultra... ended up getting the Ultra - I think that is the only time I've ever seen one bought at WM.

...and was dumping the M1EP @ 3K.

I used to use WIX filters, but for a couple of years I have been using the standard FRAM filter. I can see it when I remove it as the design is just the filter element that fits into the canister on the side of the block.

I have never seen anything wrong with the old filters I have removed. They look kind of brown, but I don't see anything wrong with them, and they don't look particularly clogged.

Is there something wrong with the filters I don't see?
I use Mobil 1, about 10K miles between changes.

I wanna try an orange Fram just to display to myself how much it would be perfectly fine. Lately the Purolators have been tearing media. I'm definitely at least buying a TG soon.

I got a Fram from Goodwill for $1.99. Someone must have bought it then had second thoughts and donated it!

Naturally I have my part # memorized and used it without incident.

Wouldn't be surprised if they were also doing 3k mile oci with those ocod so it's not going to make much of a difference.

Due to the hype on the internet and on here, I haven't used fram in years. After my stash of Motorcraft and Napa filters are gone, I might have to give them a try again. With the 30% off code at advance it makes them $3. They look like a pretty good filter since it seems they have been doing a lot better with quality control.

If it was the TG I would bat an eye. I used those for years before I got too involved with things. Never had an issue. It was a middle of the road, stout feeling, easy grip, good priced filter.

.........

Or the person sold the vehicle it was going to used on and donated it. Also, could have just as easily been a estate donation of someone cleaning out their dead dad's or Grandpa's garage.

There is a multitude of reason of why stuff shows up at Goodwill.
