Did Fram downgrade their grip section?

There is only ~1 cm of anti-slip coating on this filter. It used to be at least double.

Looks like a bad batch. The sure grip is a fairly recognizable product. Not sure downgrading it would be wise.

I agree that that looks like a bad one that slipped through. Look how uneven the grip edge is.

Yeah, it does look shorter than normal. A trend, or just an off batch, who knows. Sure grip, the only feature on the OG XG I didn't care for. Makes using a fit cap wrench either difficult or impossible to use. Slippage inside the cap.

"Quality" and "Control" in most of the oil filter world don't know how to live with each other anymore. 🙃😄

I see. It's helpful when you hand tighten. Your glove doesn't slip.

I just bought three PH12060. They all have the normal sized textured grip. The OP's appears to be a bad batch. These constant examples of QC issues are noteworthy, however.

Fram may have a minimum dimension for that grippy texture and the OP's just squeaked by. It doesn't affect the filter's functionality whatsoever though.

This is true, but I've never seen one like the OP's before.
