My Fusion uses an orange coolant spec WSS-M97B44-D. This stuff appears to be Dex-cool, but upon reading the coolant jugs they don't say if they are compatible.
I seriously doubt if Ford engineered a unique formula just for the Fusion. I just don't seem to be able to research that spec to find out what it really is.
I'm small town limited and the cheapest I can buy the ford coolant is 35/gal + tax and I really hate to go there for something as common as what appears to be Dex.
Thanks for the help

I'm pretty certain Peak Global, or Long Life Full Stength can be used. Global is the better of the two though. They have a tech department which is extremely helpful. Go to their website and contact them over the phone, if you don't get definitive answer here. Good luck finding it in a local auto parts store though.

I thought the coolant was supposed to be good for about 5 years. Are you changing it really early?

I agree...the OE should be good for a few more years. If you need to top off you could bring it to the dealer under warranty or use Peak Global.

How do you like the 6speed manual/2.5 combo in your Fusion? I like the idea of this midsize with a stick shift. How is the gearbox? What are your MPG's?

Where are you guys coming up with this? Zerex DexCool specially points out it meets Ford WSS-M97B44-D. Peak Global meets Ford ESE-M97B44-A, Ford WSS-M97B51-A1. Which is Motorcraft Gold and the wrong product.

Not changing the coolant just need to top it up a little.

The gearbox is not too bad, could shift a little better but I'm going to try some RL MT in to see if that helps. The wife gets 33MPG around town and we get 35-37MPG on the road. Most of the gripes about the Fusion are the auto trans and the gee whiz electronics so my "S" model is relatively trouble free. My biggest compliant is the drive by wire throttle which is a pain especially in the mountains..no decel at all.
Thanks for your imputs

PS I've been running Peak global lifetime in my Acura for almost 10 yrs without problems.

But the DexCool jugs say they are.

I just checked Valvoline's website and they list their DexCool licensed coolant as meeting Ford's WSS-M97B44-D specification.

my 2012 Fusion takes Motorcraft Orange, which I'm 100% confidant that it's actually Dexcool.

I read an article a while ago that said Ford is switch to Dexcool (for some unknown reason!).

Standardization with the rest of the world. Does not make sense to have 3 different coolants at one time.
