EU may limit all cars to 70MPH??

Well we can be sure this won't happen in the US. Speeding tickets bring in ton's of money, can't see them stopping speed traps, etc.

That's just SO wrong...on so many levels. (Referring to the article)

Why not track people with multiple speeding tickets and do this to THEIR cars, and leave the rest of us responsible drivers alone? Sometimes it's NECESSARY to exceed the speed limit to PREVENT an accident...

WOW....the more gov't takes away in the name of "common sense" the less power the people have. Would you feel it "common sense" for Gov't to have cameras installed IN every vehicle to ensure your not texting and driving? Talking on a cellhpone? Using your direction when making a turn? Seems far fetched but it's not really....Once on that slippery slope the sky is the limit.

Once people still die at 70mph then maybe 50mph is what will be needed?? or 40mph?

Gov't is never to be trusted! I know, I work for Gov't.

Yes and yes.

That will never happen as even our bollox highways here in my neck of wood have a speed limit of 81 Mph...what about the Autobahn then?

Even if by a miracle this passes I have a hunch that the limiter will get yank out before the sun sets the day you bought the car

I spent a good part of yesterday at 140-150 kph, that was the normal speed of traffic traveling across Fyn! The speed limit was officially 110kph, but when conditions permitted, common sense seemed prevail.

My guess is, that would continue.

PS we were still getting 5.4 litres per 100 km at that speed, Gotta LoveTurbo Diesels.

Me too

The aftermarket will thrive if this actually goes through.

Also, liters per 100km? I have no idea what a good figure is.

My pic came out bad but yes, L/100km.

Conversion is 3.875L=1 gal and 100km=62.5mi

So I was burning 4.3L = 1.1gal per 62.5mi.

Or I was getting 56.8 MPG at 171km/h~108 MPH sustained somewhere across southern Germany.

30 mpg would be like 13L/100km.

They should put GPS units in cars and every time you go over the speed limit you get a ticket. If you don't take the most direct route to work you get a ticket. If you drive around with no purpose you get a ticket. If you leave your car idling for more than 1 minute you get a ticket. If you drive to an unapproved location you get a ticket. If you ......

The police have warned they will make a lot of speed controls the next couple of weeks (yes..the police here actually warn the public) i know they cannot take your drivers license as a tourist. But they can give you a very big ticket. And by the way. The general speed limits is 130 km/h. 110 is only some places.

haven't all euro cars been electronically limited to 150mph for years now? and please correct me if i'm wrong, but there's not an external limiter, it's programmed into the ECU?

and yes, i realize the new proposal would be 1/2 the speed of the current limitations, just trying to point out, they wouldn't need to add any parts to the cars, just change a few lines of code in the ECU.

155Mph, and yes, it is part of the ECM. But is usually easily removed.

No. It is only german carmakers (exept porsche) who limit them to 250 km/h

And i doubt it will ever happen. One thing is what the EU Think is a good idea. Another is what the people thinks. And the parlaments and goverments in the 22 or so european countrys fear the next election as much as the rest of the world.
