I spent some time yesterday changing the oil in my Volkswagen. I figured you would all enjoy my environmentally focused reusable oil filter.
I would say the pleat spacing is excellent, there is no excess glue.
It’s nice to just simply clean the filter and put 2 1/2 quarts in and be done. I used the new Mobil 1 Classic oil.

Enjoy my pictures!

I learned how to do oil changes on my father's 1972 VW Super Beetle in the late 1970s. I got the gasket kits and oil from a auto parts store three blocks from our house. As I recall, I used single weight oil, 20 in winter, 30 in summer. I would wash the filter in a little tray of gasoline. I always wondered what the hell that screen would trap...there was never anything in it. The bottom plate cover would usually have some sludgey crap settled on it. That was also cleaned off in the tray of gas.

Because that filter didn't seem to do anything, occasionally, I would just do a drain and fill. Oil changes were every 3k as I recall. My dad kept a small log book in the glove box to document it in.

If you kept up with oil changes there was really no need for a filter. I had a couple VW's and changed oil regularly. Would only drop out the filter screen every second OC. Would just loosen the nuts and let oil dribble out. When those engines were re-built the internals sparkled like new when I tore them down. Used Havoline oil pretty exclusively.
