Purely a programming issue.

Agreed. I can feel the difference in my Cruze switching between the two modes of the tune it has. The normal-driving tune needs a bit of throttle to get the car moving. The same amount of throttle in the performance-driving setting make the car move much faster.

I found "shift flare" in our 2001 Civic, and our 2011 Camry, and in the previous ancient Escort; might have found it in something else too. It's entirely possible that it's me (but I doubt it, as I never do anything wrong); but none of these seemed to do it: '83 S10, 86 Subaru, 00 Saturn, 04 TDI. Our Camry just requires a lot more finesses on my part to drive, I guess.

Dunno. These days the only systems in cars that I truly hate are DRL's and seatbelt chimes. Everything else seems to be reasonably well integrated to my liking.

So one really cool feature on the Volvo's DBW is that I can use the brake and throttle at the same time. It will not cut power when you hit the brake which is totally and completely awesome. To be honest, I haven't driven the automatic version, so I don't know if this is only on the manuals. As someone who regularly left foot brakes and heel-toe shifts this is necessary for normal driving. Also the newer 05+ Mustang GT's I have driven will do this as well. Really awesome to see manufacturers not deactivate the throttle when the brake pedal is pressed.
