Does axle nut torque correlate with early wheel bearing failure?

I keep hearing online and from some sources that it’s cruical to have the axle nut torqued perfectly as overtourquing it causes the wheel bearing extra stress

Is this true? What do you guys think? Cuz the shop just impacted my axle nut on

Thx

It’s true. Especially so on smaller front wheel drive Honda’s Subaru’s Toyota’s etc. but it’s just good practice to properly torque them all.

Only time I ever removed a FWD axle nut , I used a 3/4" drive break over bar and cheater bar . Replaced it the same way .

i agree with trav 100% when diy customers came back to return a so called bad hub bearing, i would ask what torque they used. like a deer in the headlights for so many. even a crap hub bearing has half a chance if you preload correctly. of course the shade tree dudes would say i've been doing this for 30 years and never torqued it. most times i'd say nothing but some times i'd say you been doing it wrong for 30 years
