Well, I have about 1250 miles on my Castrol Edge 5w30 that I bought on coupon and rebate at AAP. I'm disappointed with it. It runs very well in my engine, and everything seems nice and smooth and quite. I have not done any UOA on it yet, but I was hoping that I would not like it, and so far just the opposite has happened, lol. I was hoping that it I would not like it so I could go back to my sacred Amsoil. Now I'm not sure what to do. If I can keep buying it at a good price, I may keep using it. Not sure yet though... Anyone else having good results with it??

It seems to be working pretty really well in my car...

I'm at about the same spot. I'm just about 1,500 miles into my run that I got almost free at AAP and I'm liking it as well. I'm tempted to buy another 3 quarts to do another oil change with it to go with my 1 quart I have leftover to run it again...

Results? I don't think you've got much in terms of results, really. No offense, but "nice and smooth" doesn't really count, IMO. :)

There have been some UOAs posted if you look on that subforum, but even that is hard to consider "results". After all, UOA is not the best tool for comparing one oil to another.

I was thinking about doing the autozone deal with the K&N filter for 34.99 and then grabbing the $15 edge rebate making it about 20 bucks for everything. It sounds like a good choice. The filter will be used next OC with an extended OCI of Amsoil SSO, but I will use the Castrol later down the road.

4.25qt's in the car another 10.75 to go.. and 15qt of PP

I am refusing to buy any oil now unless its under 1$/qt for reg or 2$/qt for syn.

the only thing I noticed was it seems to sound better on cold startup than the factory fill and MC 5w20.

not that any were horrid.

luckily my engine only revs to 1500rpm on startup.

If I had one of them fancy engines that goto 3k to light off the cat quicker, it would probably drive me nuts.

Amen on your purchasing rules.
I have about three years of oil now, including some Edge.
Unless you can get it dirt cheap, pass on it.

+1 on the Amen...I have just over 300 qts that I have paid about $580 for. $2/qt for synthetic is my limit now.

I've got 10 qts and it will be a year or more before I even use them. It cost me under $6 for 10 qts and 2 Pure One filters, how could I pass on that deal? I'm afraid I might like it too.

I understand that, I was just trying to get any opinions from others who have used it. All I can say is that the engine sounds very good starting and running both cold and hot. It may even be a little quieter than the Amsoil SSO 0w30 that I was running. I know the SSO is a fantastic oil, but I'm just reporting on what I have noticed from driving the car back and fourth to work everyday.

I know that people tend to really praise anything that is new that they spent money on, most likely to reassure themselves that they made a good purchase. That is not the good that I am seeing with it. I never planned on using it, I've never really used any synthetic oil in any of my engines aside from Amsoil.

So as I said, it just seems to be running very well and everything seems to be a little less noisy that it was in the past. I know that is not very scientific at all, but I'm not just making up observations either.

300 qts....jesus man, its only money, im paying 10 bucks a quart for rl 0-40 because thats what i want to run in my car.

Well im just about 1600 miles into my Edge oil change, lots of idle time though, it has been getting colder and colder here latley. I do say that i like how fast the oil pressure comes up after the truck sits all night in weather from 30-10 above, it did get -10 for a little bit, not a problem, actually started better then when i ran valvoline last winter.

I think somebody has an addiction. Time for an intervention

I seriously wonder how anyone can tell a difference between oils in the engine.....Just my 2 cents....

Most times, it is just a "placebo effect" because that is what people want to believe.

+1 on the Edge. My Corolla is noticeably quieter at idle in the garage with Edge over Platinum, although that is not necessarily indicative of performance, I understand that.

I haven't tried mine yet, but I have 2 weeks or so before I change the oil out. Quieter might not be better, but I would rather have an engine that is more quiet because of oil, than it being noisy because of oil. I found PP runs quieter than Mobil 1 did in the same grade.

I wonder that same thing. I wouldn't be able to tell in my Trans Am anyway, Big cam, Patriot gold valve springs and heads.
I would have to put gear oil in to quiet up the valve train.
