No idea on the history. I found it in a scrap yard where it was piled on a bunch of junk. I estimate it had been outside in the elements for 25 plus year, no oil pan and open to mother nature. It was probably removed from service because it was worn out and eventually went to scrap. It took two engines to build this one. It's totally rebuilt with a new pistons, liners, bearings, injectors, valves, tubes etc. Here's what it looked like before and after.
